Chapter 16

~You Never Know Who Knows Who~

Shae did a double take as he made his way across the club. The woman sitting at the table with King and his boys looked just like Yazmin. When Shae got closer to the table, he realized the woman looked like Yazmin, because it was Yazmin. What the hell was she doing here? Forgetting all about the meeting he was there for, Shae rushed over to Yazmin and snatched her from the chair she was sitting in. Bear, unsure of what was going on, pulled his gun out and trained it on Shae. Shae’s cousins in return, pulled out their guns and pointed them at King and his team. Yazmin quickly stepped between the group of men and took control of the situation. Taking a few steps toward King and Bear, she looked in Shae’s direction. “Shotta this is my family. Have your men lower their weapons now!” King looked back and forth between Shae and Yazmin confused. Why was Yazmin calling the man he knew as Shae, Shotta? It wasn’t until I started hustling that I became known as Shotta on the streets, because I was from Jamaica and wore my hair in dreads.” When he saw a few people in the room didn’t get the connection he explained that “Shottas,” was a movie about two dread head men, that grew up together hustling on the streets of Jamaica. After Shae saw everyone nodding their head once they understood, he continued. “When I left Detroit and came to Battle Creek and linked up with my cousins I grew up with, they were still calling me by my childhood nickname, Shae. Because I was trying to leave my old life behind in Detroit, I stopped going by Shotta and went back to using my childhood nickname Shae.” Yazmin sat quietly, in stunned silence. While she did trust everything he was saying, Yazmin couldn’t believe for the second time in less than a year this was happening. The same person was believed to be two different people because they were going by two different nicknames. Why
